Butomus umbellatus is a marginal pond plant for wet banks, marshy ground, and shallow water. It forms long grassy foliage and carries airy umbels of rosy-pink flowers above the leaves in summer. This species is suited to pond margins and water gardens where it can be planted in fertile mud or shallow water. Mature height is about 30-150 cm, and Gardenia notes planting in water up to 35 cm deep. Best for: pond margins, water gardens, marshy planting, and naturalistic pond edges.
