Houttuynia cordata 'Chameleon' is a fast-spreading rhizomatous perennial grown mainly for its striking foliage. The heart-shaped leaves are richly variegated with cream, yellow, pink, and red tones, and the plant produces small greenish-white flowers with showy white bracts in late spring to early summer. It thrives in moist to wet soils in full sun or partial shade and is especially suitable for pond margins, bog gardens, and damp borders. It can also be placed in shallow water up to about 10 cm deep, but because it spreads aggressively, container planting is usually the safest choice.
